Aromatherapy Body Massage

Regarded by most a truly holistic massage, treating the individual as a whole, rather than just concentrating on physical conditions. A more gentle, slower massage, taking into account the face and scalp, which is quite often neglected by remedial or Swedish massage. Incorporating the use of essential oils making a wonderful addition to this massage. Not only can the fragrance lift your mood, but the individual oils have therapeutic properties that can enhance the health giving effect of massage.

As with all massage on a physical level aids the elimination of toxic waste, assisting the venous flow of blood, encourages the lymphatic flow, also relaxing and toning muscles. Holistic massage also effects the energy centres, (chakras) whilst the emotional effects of a sensitive aromatherapy massage can be profound. On a mental level, massage not only relieves stress and anxiety, it can create a feeling of tranquillity, and well-being. It can sometimes engender a state similar to that experienced by meditators. On a spiritual level, the benefits of massage are hard to describe, for we are talking of something that is intrinsically indefinable-the essence, the “life force” the whole. It is not uncommon during holistic massage, for the receiver to attain a state of heightened awareness, of “presence of the moment” .

Essential oils are readily absorbed through the skin and interact with our bodies in the following way:

Pharmacologically: Through chemical changes entering the blood stream
Physiologically: produce physical effects such as sedation or stimulation
Psychologically: aroma of an oil is inhaled to react positively or negatively

There are many ways in which essential oils can be used. The most common method is through massage, where small amounts of essential oil is added to a base or carrier oil.
